Make It Monday #45: Coloring Embossed Images with Copic Markers

I've looking at this Kleenex box on my desk for a couple of months trying to figure out how to recreate the pattern for a card.  Well, this week's MIM technique worked great!  First I embossed the leaves and larger flowers.  Then I embossed the center of the flowers.  They sort of melted down into the larger flower, but they provided an slight outline for me to follow for coloring the centers with Copics.

Make It Monday #44: Glitter Masking

I'm squeezing in a project just under the wire for PTI's Make It Monday #44 challenge with glitter masking.   My 4-year-old loves to watch the MIM videos with me and wanted to try this technique.  I was surprised at how easy it was to get such a dramatic effect!

We tried stamping a sentiment (my daughter wanted "chirp chirp") with StazOn, but were not successful. Any tips on how to make that work?

Thanks for stopping by,
Jennifer

Accessories:  In the Meadow dies (PTI), various glitters (Martha Stewart Crafts)

Make It Monday #38: Brayer & Impression Plate Techniques

Another last minute post for the latest PTI Make It Monday challenge.  Do you remember those old multi-color spectrum ink pads?  I almost got rid of mine a couple months ago, but it was perfect for this technique!  I also remembered from years ago that inks blend better on glossy card stock, so used that for my brayered panel.

Thanks for stopping by!

Make It Monday #35: Custom Stamped Washi Tape

I'm getting this post up just under the wire for PTI's Make It Monday #35 challenge to stamp your own washi tape.  I was thrilled to see this technique as I've been interested in the washi tape, but it seems a little spendy.  I love that I can make my own tapes to coordinate with my PTI stamps without spending any extra.

Jennifer

Make It Monday #34: Thick Chipboard Accents

For PTI's Make It Monday #34, I started out planning to make Christmas ornaments.  But when I actually pulled out the dies, they just seemed too small.  Is it just me, or do things always look bigger on the blogs??  Anyway, I added the chipboard pieces to tags, and I love how they turned out.

Jennifer

Papertrey Ink Blog Hop September 2011

Here's my take on PTI's September Blog Hop with the top photo for our inspiration.  I found myself more inspired the author's childhood memory of rainbows, so I went in that direction with traditional bright rainbow colors.  I loved drawing rainbows when I was a kid.

I had fun making the piece of striped patterned paper using Faux Ribbon.  I discovered that it was easiest to make the paper by lining up my white cardstock with a gridline paper.  The line stamp fit well inside the 1/4 grid, so I was able to keep things fairly straight.

Thanks for stopping by, and have fun hopping!
Jennifer

Make It Monday #33: Frosted Images

Here's my take on PTI's Make It Monday #33 challenge for frosted images.  I was going for the witch flying by a foggy moon.  The layout is FTL 156.

I was able to cut the yellow circle with a Nestabilities but keep the broom just by placing a piece of chipboard over the broom.  Then I used scissors to trim closely around the broom.  I think I saw that tip on Debbie Olson's blog, but couldn't find it again.

Off to work on something for the PTI Blog hop.

Jennifer

One Layer Wednesday 64: Color It

This is my first time participating in the One Layer Wednesday challenge.  I have to say that A Muse give away is quite an incentive!  This week's challenge was to color on a one layer card.  I've had this topiary stamp for years and never used it because I didn't like coloring images much.  But now that I've discovered Copics, I decided to finally ink it up.

The gingham background stamp is a challenge for me.  I practiced lining it up like 3 times on scrap paper, but then didn't quite get it right on my card.  Geez!

ETA:  I realized this morning that I forgot to add that I was inspired by this card on the Simplicity blog. I have so many card ideas bouncing around in my head that I don't always remember where inspiration might have come from.

Thanks for stopping by,
Jennifer

Stamp:  SU! - don't know the set name, Background Basics: Gingham (PTI)
Ink:  Soft Suede (SU!), Rich Cocoa (Memento), Copic markers
Paper:  Vanilla notecard (The Paper Company)

PTI Make It Monday #32: Stamping with Acrylic Paint

Here's my take on PTI's Make It Monday #32:  Stamping with Acrylic Paint.  I tried 3 different variations:  stamping in solid color, stamping off with solid color, and blending colors.  I love how the blended paints turned out!
I had always thought of acrylic paints in very basic colors.  I was pleasantly surprised to find new Martha Stewart acrylic paints (or at least new in our town) in some great colors.  I picked up a few more to try this technique again because I really love the coverage of the paint.  I was a little freaked out when I tried to clean my stamps though.  It took a bit of elbow grease with a soft scrub pad to get all of the paint off.

Thanks for stopping by,
Jennifer

Ink:  Soft Suede (SU!)
Paint:  Martha Stewart Crafts acrylic paint in Pollen, Chipotle, and Carrot

Hello,

Here's my take on the latest PTI Make It Monday challenge #31.  The background is made from a tag frame from Boxes, Bags and Tags, one of my earliest PTI purchases.  The butterfly is from With Sympathy.

I started with the one layer Baby card, but then decided to make a second version with some dimension.  This butterfly embellishment was inspired by Nichole's card here.

PTI Make It Monday #30: Colored Pencils Take 3

Hi.  I'm back with a third card using the colored pencils for the Make It Monday challenge.  I borrowed this layout from the Harvest Berries card by Debbie Olsen on this post.  I almost didn't get the Harvest Berries set and I am so glad that I did!  Super easy to stamp with.

Jennifer

PTI Make It Monday #30: Colored Pencils Take 2

Hi.  I'm back with a second card using the colored pencils for the Make It Monday challenge.  I borrowed the layout from this card by Maile.  Wish I had stamped the sentiment darker, but I now know for next time.

Thanks for stopping by,
Jennifer

Stamps: Harvest Berries (PTI)

PTI Make It Monday #30: Colored Pencils

The PTI Make It Monday #30 video gave tips on using colored pencils.  I picked up some Prismascolors almost a year ago and have barely used them.  Using baby oil to blend the colors made all the difference for me.  Love the results!  Now I wish that I had bought a larger set of pencils!

I stamped the jack-o-latern face after I had colored with pencils because I changed my mind on the design.  The ink didn't take as well, but I think it works nicely with the slightly vintage look of the card.

Thanks for stopping by,
Jennifer

Stamps:  Boo To You
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Pumpkie Pie (SU!), Wild Wasabi (SU!), Chai Tea Dye
Paper:  kraft (SU!), Stamper's Select White

Make It Monday #29: Freestyle Copic Coloring

I'm finally trying a Make It Monday technique after 29 weeks!  This technique was a stretch for me, and I had a hard time putting a card together that looked "freestyle."  When I showed my husband my first attempt, he said that I probably shouldn't post it.  I finally figured out that tilting the umbrella would add a bit of whimsy.  And I just kept the card simple so as not to fight with the freestyle attitude.  Thanks for stopping by!
